VLC: stream_out_transcode error: cannot find encoder

Trying to play some video files using the VLC plugin of my Dreambox gave me this error:

stream_out_transcode error: cannot find encoder ((null))
main debug: removing module "mpeg_audio"
stream_out_transcode error: cannot create audio chain
main error: cannot create packetizer output (mpga)
  

and

stream_out_transcode error: cannot find encoder ((null))
main debug: removing module "a52"
stream_out_transcode error: cannot create audio chain
main error: cannot create packetizer output (a52 )
  

Reason for this was that ffmpeg respective vlc lacked the libs/config flags to encode that format. Setting the Dreambox vlc player to request mp1 audio fixed it.
